Our scoring engine is grounded in 30+ peer-reviewed research papers including Eloundou et al. (GPTs are GPTs), the Brynjolfsson-Mitchell Suitability for Machine Learning (SML) framework, the IMF AI exposure model, and frontier AI evaluations from METR, an independent research lab that measures how capable AI systems actually are. Every task classification is cross-referenced against O*NET occupational data and a growing library of 18,000+ O*NET-grounded reference tasks. We use deterministic scoring (temperature 0, fixed seed) so the same input always produces the same output. That said, AI capabilities evolve rapidly, so we run monthly calibration reviews against the latest research. Like any model, this produces structured estimates, not predictions. The output is most useful as a starting point for thinking about your role.

We run monthly deep research reviews covering new AI capability benchmarks, peer-reviewed papers, and frontier model releases. When a major model launch (like GPT-5 or Claude) shifts what AI can do, we recalibrate our scoring anchors. We also continuously monitor METR evaluations for new domain benchmarks and doubling-rate data. Every update is logged in our public Engine Changelog.
